Biography

Professor Kenneth S. Suslick received his B.S. from the California Institute of Technology in 1974 and his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1978. He joined the University of Illinois immediately thereafter and has since published more than 418 scientific papers, edited four books, and holds 56 patents with several patents pending. His significant entrepreneurial experience includes serving as lead consultant for Molecular Biosystems Inc., contributing to the commercialization of the echo contrast agent for medical sonography, Albunex™, which became Optison™ at GE Healthcare. He also co-founded VivoRx Pharmaceuticals, which played a key role in inventing and commercializing Abraxane™, a delivery system for taxol chemotherapy. Suslick's research focuses on sonochemical synthesis of materials, mechanochemistry, and chemical sensing, with an emphasis on optoelectronic nose technology for gas analytes and biomedical applications. His work has received acclaim, and he has been elected as a Fellow of several prestigious organizations, including the American Chemical Society and the Royal Society of Chemistry.
