Biography

Kenneth Q. Zhou is an Associate Professor in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at the University of Waterloo. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and an Associate of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. Kenneth earned his PhD in Actuarial Science from the University of Waterloo in 2019 and previously worked as an Assistant Professor at Arizona State University from 2019 to 2024. He was also recognized as a James C. Hickman Scholar by the Society of Actuaries from 2015 to 2019. His research interests include stochastic mortality modeling, longevity risk management, insurance data analytics, and Bayesian modeling and forecasting. Kenneth's work focuses on the technical and economic foundations of life insurance practice, particularly emphasizing modeling mortality trends and managing longevity risk. He develops and applies statistical methods to address data-driven challenges and identify sources of financial risks within the insurance sector. His research has been published in leading actuarial and statistical journals such as Insurance: Mathematics and Economics, North American Actuarial Journal, and the Journal of Risk and Insurance. He has received the 2019 Redington Prize for his contributions to the field and regularly presents at international conferences and university seminars, passionately sharing his research findings. Kenneth is deeply committed to actuarial education and mentorship, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in actuarial science and statistics, and supervising students' research at various academic levels.
