Dr. Kensuke Hirasawa

Biography

Kensuke Hirasawa is a Professor in the Department of BioMedical Sciences at Memorial University of Newfoundland. His research focuses on cancer biology, particularly the study of cancer cells and their responses to various treatments, including oncolytic viruses and photodynamic therapy. He is interested in understanding cellular signaling pathways that affect cancer cell behavior, especially how these pathways are manipulated in the context of virus infection and cancer therapies. His laboratory investigates the mechanisms through which cancer cells accumulate mutations and develop resistance to apoptosis. Hirasawa’s ongoing projects include enhancing the efficacy of radiotherapy by inducing inflammatory cell death and promoting antitumor immunity, which are critical in improving treatment outcomes for cancer patients.
