Biography

Keren Mezuman is a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at Columbia University’s Center for Climate Systems Research, where she applies physical statistical models to study human-natural interactions. She is currently the Human Migration Lead for the World Modelers project, utilizing agent-based models to analyze the sensitivity of migrant flows to environmental shocks and political unrest. Her research aims to inform socio-economic policy decision-making. Mezuman collaborates with NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) and is involved in the development of ModelE, an Earth System Model that addresses interactions across the atmosphere, biosphere, and anthroposphere. Her specific research interests include global fire activity, health impacts of air pollution, and the full life cycle of food production. Mezuman completed her PhD through a joint program between NASA GISS and Columbia University’s Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, where she developed pyrE, an interactive fire-climate module, and contributed to the AeroCom project on biomass burning aerosol intercomparison.
