Keren Papier is a nutritional epidemiologist whose research examines the impact of diet on health. She works at the Cancer Epidemiology Unit (CEU), focusing on the health impacts of consuming meat and sustainable diets, with variations in the inclusion of meat and animal-source foods within large prospective cohort studies. Her research aims to assess dietary intake and nutritional adequacy, particularly comparing animal-source foods with plant-based alternatives within the context of health and environmental sustainability. Keren leads a research programme investigating the long-term health impacts of plant-based diets, funded by Oxford Population Health, and is the Principal Investigator (PI) for the MRC funded Longitudinal Population Study grant. She is also a co-PI on the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) funded grant ProMap, which maps diet and cancer proteome relations. In addition to her research, Keren serves as the Module Lead for the Non-Communicable Diseases module in the MSc Global Health Science Epidemiology programme. Prior to joining CEU, Keren obtained her PhD in Epidemiology from the Australian National University, assessing the incidence and risk factors for emerging type 2 diabetes mellitus in Thailand, and holds a BSc in Public Health Nutrition (Hons) from Griffith University, where her research focused on childhood malnutrition and Schistosomiasis in the Philippines.
