Dr. Keri Brenner

Biography

Keri Brenner, MD, MPA is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Stanford University, specializing in palliative medicine and primary care population health practices. Her clinical work involves inpatient palliative care consultations, and she has been inspired to pursue palliative care after serving at Mother Teresa’s Home for the Dying in Kolkata, India, on multiple occasions. Dr. Brenner's research focuses on the psychological elements of palliative care, with an emphasis on psychodynamic and existential issues faced by patients with serious illnesses. She obtained her medical degree from Yale School of Medicine, where she also completed an honors thesis on the phenomenology of suffering in terminal illness. Additionally, she holds a Master of Public Administration from Harvard’s Kennedy School. Dr. Brenner completed her adult psychiatry residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and a palliative care fellowship at Harvard. She served on the University of Notre Dame Board of Trustees from 2005 to 2008 and was awarded funding from Harvard’s Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study in 2019. Outside of her professional life, she enjoys the beautiful outdoors of Northern California with her husband and their four young children.
