Professor Dr. Kerri Ann Butcher

Biography

Kerri Butcher is an ESRC Postdoctoral Research Fellow based in the Phonetics Laboratory at the University of Cambridge. She holds a College Research Associate position at King’s College. Kerri completed her PhD in Theoretical Applied Linguistics in 2022. Prior to joining Cambridge, she earned her BA in English Language Linguistics from the University of Essex in 2013 and completed her MRes in Linguistics in 2015. As a first-generation university student, Kerri is dedicated to improving access to higher education. Her research interests primarily focus on the phonetics-phonology interface and sociolinguistics, with a core emphasis on variation and change in East Anglian English. She applies instrumental and experimental approaches to study the interplay of sound and language change over time and space, drawing on methodologies from sociology and geography.
