Biography

Kerry Kinney holds the L.P. Gilvin Centennial Professorship in the Fariborz Maseeh Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. He is also a courtesy professor in the Department of Population Health at Dell Medical School. Kinney's research applies principles of environmental engineering and molecular biology to investigate the roles of microorganisms in contaminants within engineered systems, particularly those in buildings and residential water systems. With over a decade of dedicated research, his work has increased understanding of how conditions facilitate fungal growth in buildings and developed new indoor sampling strategies. Kinney's studies notably focus on microbial exposures and their impact on occupant health, as well as the quality of indoor air and drinking water systems. He actively collaborates with the Communities–Whole Health Bridging Barriers Initiative and serves on the steering committee for the Center for Health and Environment: Education and Research at Dell Medical School.
