Kerry MacQuarrie is a Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of New Brunswick. With a PhD in Earth Science focused on Hydrogeology from the University of Waterloo, his research primarily revolves around hydrology and hydrogeology. His expertise includes understanding groundwater-surface water interactions and the physical and chemical processes involved in the transport and fate of subsurface contaminants, especially reactive solutes. Currently, he is quantifying the impact of groundwater extraction on small stream discharges, a critical area given the increasing demand for groundwater resources during dry periods. His research is also examining reactive transport processes related to deep geological repositories for used nuclear fuel, supported by Canada’s Nuclear Waste Management Organization. He is a registered member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick and a member of several professional organizations, including the American Geophysical Union and the National Ground Water Association.
