Biography

Kerry Sayle is a Research Scientist at the Scottish Universities Environmental Research Centre (SUERC) where she manages the light stable isotope facility and the SUERC Radiocarbon Laboratory. Her work supports both collaborative research and commercial projects. She has collaborated with Thermo Fisher Scientific to develop methodologies that enable the simultaneous analysis of nitrogen (δ15N), carbon (δ13C), and sulfur (δ34S) isotopes from small archaeological bone collagen and dentine samples. Sayle's primary research interests center on the application of stable isotope analysis to investigate diet, mobility, and social status in prehistoric societies. She employs sulfur isotope analysis in conjunction with radiocarbon dating to explore the marine and freshwater reservoir effects. Sayle collaborates extensively with archaeologists to produce precise Bayesian chronologies for archaeological sites, and she encourages collaborative research projects. Additionally, she warmly welcomes PhD project proposals from visitors looking to conduct research at the facility. She has been involved in several ongoing collaborative research projects focused on coastal adaptation, medieval archaeology, and bioarchaeological perspectives, among others.
