Biography

Kerry joined the Australian National University in January 2016, having spent six months working on a UN 'big data' project at the Australian Bureau of Statistics. He has over 20 years of experience as a principal research scientist at CSIRO in the polyonymous research division. His work encompasses practitioner consulting, publishing, and education in government across Sydney, Montreal, and Oxford. His research focuses on data management, integration, mining, and machine learning within interdisciplinary contexts, especially those employing logic-based semantic approaches. His recent work addresses data issues related to the Internet of Things (IoT). Kerry lectures on logic programming, networking, software engineering, and agile project management and currently convenes ANU's postgraduate programs in applied data analytics. From 2015 to 2017, he co-chaired the joint Spatial Data on the Web working group at W3C OGC. Kerry holds a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Computer Science from UNSW (1983) and a PhD in Computer Science from ANU (1996). He has been a Visiting Reader at the University of Surrey in the UK and a Visiting Fellow at the University of Melbourne. Kerry serves on the editorial boards of the Knowledge-Based Systems and the International Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks, as well as on conference program committees for ISWC, ESWC, and WWW.
