Biography

Kerstin Bouma is an ecologist with a strong interest in nature restoration management. She focuses on large ecological processes to create research outputs relevant for practitioners and managers. Communication is an important aspect of her work, and she enjoys creating appealing outputs and giving presentations. Bouma's favorite part of her research involves fieldwork, where she finds it rewarding to collect her own data. She holds a Bachelor and Master degree in Biology from Wageningen University (WUR), where her Master thesis investigated the impact of pre-and postnatal predator cues on the offspring behavior of bank voles at the University of Jyväskyla in Finland. Her PhD research at the Netherlands Institute of Ecology examined how cyclic water level dynamics determine wetland functioning and included a variety of topics like seed bank nutrient availability, aquatic food web assessments, and vegetation responses to water level changes. Currently, she is working on the Naturmål project as a Postdoc, focusing on setting goals for dynamic nature management and collaborating with researchers and managers to produce scientific outputs applicable in the field. The project is financed by the Aage v. Jensen Naturfond.
