Biography

Kerstin Lehnert is a Senior Research Scientist at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and the Data Science Institute at Columbia University. She leads a NSF-funded data facility, the Interdisciplinary Earth Data Alliance (IEDA). With a PhD in Petrology from the University of Freiburg in Germany, her work over the past 15 years has focused primarily on developing community-driven data infrastructures for the solid Earth sciences. She aims to enhance the access and sharing of Earth and space science data as well as physical samples, fostering a culture of data sharing within 'small data' communities. Currently, she is a member of the NSF Advisory Committee on Cyberinfrastructure and serves as the Chair of the EarthCube Leadership Council, in addition to being the President of the Earth Space Science Informatics Focus Group at the American Geophysical Union and a member of the AGU Council Leadership Team. Lehnert is also the President of IGSN e.V. In her personal life, she enjoys running, exercising, and attending Bruce Springsteen concerts, and has a fondness for her six cats.
