Biography

Kevin Bryan is an Associate Professor of Strategic Management at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. His research focuses on applied theoretical and empirical analyses related to innovation and entrepreneurship. He investigates how firms allocate R&D resources, particularly in the context of socially inefficient research projects, including those triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic. Additionally, he examines the dynamics of startups in terms of finding early employees and their decisions regarding location and acquisitions, particularly in high-growth sectors where antitrust issues are a concern. Bryan also explores how artificial intelligence can be profitably integrated with human workers and studies the science behind innovation for industry-specific inventors. His scholarly work has been published in several prestigious journals including the Journal of Economic Theory, the Review of Economics and Statistics, Research Policy, and the University of Chicago Law Review. He has a keen interest in the history of economic thought and the Industrial Revolution as well as social scientific methodology. Bryan arrived at the Rotman School in 2014 and has served as a moderator for the Creative Destruction Lab, the world's largest science-based entrepreneurship program.
