Biography

Kevin Burdge is an Assistant Professor of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research focuses on observational astrophysics, specifically on compact binary systems and gravitational-wave astrophysics, along with the development of advanced astronomical instrumentation for Magellan telescopes. Kevin is an enthusiastic collaborator in major astrophysical projects and is a member of both the LISA gravitational-wave Consortium and the AXIS Science Team. A first-generation college graduate from Heidelberg, Germany, he earned his B.S. in Physics at MIT in 2015. His undergraduate experience, including a summer internship at the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics and research at MIT under Professor Hong Liu, profoundly influenced his career path. He completed his Ph.D. in Physics at the California Institute of Technology in 2021, guided by Professor Tom Prince. In his post-doctoral work at MIT, Kevin has continued his research with a focus on the astrophysical phenomena related to compact objects and has actively participated in science outreach and education initiatives. He regularly engages with the community through events such as the Cambridge Science Festival and serves as a judge and speaker at various science competitions.
