Professor Kevin Butcher graduated from the University of Bristol in 1983 and subsequently pursued a Ph.D. at the Institute of Archaeology at University College London, focusing on Roman numismatics. He was awarded an AHRC Advanced Grant in 2019 for the project "Rome Coinages Mediterranean (RACOM)" that investigates the metallurgy of Roman imperial provincial silver coinages during the mid-first century BCE. Professor Butcher is also involved in exploring the application of social theories to archaeology, particularly concerning material culture and the ancient economy. He has supervised numerous undergraduate and postgraduate students in the fields of Greek and Roman numismatics and has produced a series of videos discussing various topics in numismatics.
