Biography

Kevin Eggan, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology at Harvard University and serves as the Director of the Stem Cell Program at the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research at the Broad Institute. He is renowned for his groundbreaking work in stem cell biology and cellular reprogramming, which have awarded him international recognition and notable accolades, including the MacArthur Foundation “Genius Grant” in 2006. Dr. Eggan's research focuses on understanding the mechanisms that lead to motor neuron degeneration in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and developing novel therapeutic options for patients. His laboratory has been instrumental in demonstrating that human somatic cells can be reprogrammed to an embryonic stem cell state and in generating patient-specific induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). Dr. Eggan completed his B.S. in microbiology at the University of Illinois in 1996 and pursued his Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where his research was guided by genetics pioneer Dr. Rudolf Jaenisch. His success in motor neuron disease research led to his appointment as the Director of the Stem Cell Program, where he continues to lead efforts to enhance the reproducibility of stem cell reprogramming technologies and to explore treatments for psychiatric diseases.
