Biography

Kevin Escudero is an Associate Professor of American Studies and Ethnic Studies at Brown University, where he also holds an affiliation with Native American Indigenous Studies. He received his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MSL from Yale Law School. His research interests include comparative studies of race, ethnicity, and Indigeneity, U.S. imperialism and militarism, immigration and citizenship, social movements, and law. His 2020 book, 'Organizing Undocumented,' explores the strategic use of intersectional movement identity by undocumented Asian, Latinx, queer, and formerly undocumented activists. Escudero's scholarly contributions have earned him recognition, including the American Sociological Association Section on Asia and Asian America's 2021 Asian American Book Award Honorable Mention and the 2020 C. Wright Mills Award from the Society for the Study of Social Problems. He is a co-editor of the forthcoming volume 'UndocuAsians: Lived Experiences and Social Movement Activism in the Diaspora' (Rutgers University Press, 2026). Escudero has been involved in initiatives addressing the needs of undocumented students and has been a Public Voices Fellow with the OpEd Project, publishing work in various outlets on the pressing issues facing immigrant communities. His research has received funding from several prestigious organizations, including the National Science Foundation and the American Council of Learned Societies.
