Biography

Kevin Foster is an Associate Professor in the African and African Diaspora Studies Department at the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on educational anthropology and the social and cultural factors that affect the educational outcomes of students, particularly those from African American and Latino backgrounds. He is dedicated to understanding the academic engagement and achievement of African American students, and has published extensively on related topics, including the impact of race and gender on academic outcomes and the intersection of sports and academics. As the founding director of the Institute for Community and University School Partnerships (ICUSP), Foster collaborates with students, teachers, and principals to develop programs aimed at facilitating positive change in schools and communities. He is also a co-founder of the Community Brothers Revolutionary Alliance, which promotes leadership development among African American and Latino boys in Title I high schools. Foster has a strong belief in the power of ethnographic research to inform educational practices.
