Kevin Fowler is a Professor of Evolutionary Biology at University College London. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Genetics from the University of Leeds in 1979 and went on to complete his PhD at the University of Sussex under the supervision of Professor Brian Charlesworth from 1979 to 1983. He then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Edinburgh from 1983 to 1991, where he was part of a group led by Professor Linda Partridge. Over the years, he has held several positions including Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, and Reader, before being appointed as Professor of Evolutionary Biology in 2010. Professor Fowler has contributed to research funding strategy decisions for UK environmental science between 2016 and 2018 and has been involved with the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). He has substantial experience in planning and delivering large doctoral training programmes and has played leading roles in London NERC Doctoral Training Partnerships since 2013. His work has focused on building an environmental science talent pipeline, with particular emphasis on candidates from underrepresented groups.
