Biography

Kevin Gould's research explores environmental economic policy-making in the Americas, with a particular focus on policies that are authorized through technical knowledge. He builds upon the literatures of political ecology and economic geography to investigate the politics of market-assisted land reform and post-disaster reconstruction, especially in the context of the Cold War infrastructure development in Guatemala. His work seeks to challenge the violent transnational processes and epistemologies that connect Canada, the United States, and Guatemala. Dr. Gould is willing to supervise theses in the fields of political ecology and critical geography, encouraging students interested in working on post-disaster reconstruction to apply. He values fieldwork and archival research in Latin America and welcomes graduate students who wish to study critical geographies and student movements. His professional affiliations include the American Association of Geographers, the Canadian Association of Geographers, and the Latin American Studies Association.
