Biography

Kevin Lawrence Henry, Jr. is an award-winning scholar focusing on race, racism, and education policy practice. He holds the position of Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His interdisciplinary scholarship investigates the politics of education, particularly the privatization of education and market-based approaches. Henry's research delves into the intersections of charter schools, the charter school authorization process, and the political economy of neoliberalism, as well as issues of anti-Blackness and Black educational thought. He critically explores how the persistence of anti-Blackness and white supremacy shapes the educational experiences of Black individuals and how the practices of Black educational actors can transform and humanize the field of education. Henry employs qualitative methodologies grounded in Critical Race Theory, Black Studies, and Political Science. His work has been published in prominent journals and he has co-authored and co-edited several influential academic works. Additionally, he serves on the editorial boards of multiple educational journals and is a co-editor for Routledge’s Educational Leadership Equity Diversity book series. Prior to his current role, he was a faculty member at the University of Arizona in the College of Education and contributed significantly to the Education Policy Center.
