Dr. Kevin Lachapelle

Biography

Kevin Lachapelle is a Professor in the Department of Surgery at McGill University, bringing a wealth of clinical and academic experience, complemented by collaborative leadership skills. His main clinical research focus is currently directed at aortic surgery; he co-founded the MUHC Aortic Clinic in 2016 and initiated the Canadian Aneurysm Risk Assessment Program, developing innovative algorithms to estimate the risk of aortic rupture and dissection. A founding director of the McGill Simulation Centre, Dr. Lachapelle served as its director from 2005-2013 and again in 2017. He has demonstrated proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams in pioneering projects and has received multiple awards for his educational leadership, including the John Ruedy Award for Innovation in Medical Education from the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada and the David Johnston Award from the McGill University Alumnae Association. Additionally, he has been recognized with special service awards from McGill and named to the McGill Faculty of Medicine Honour List for Educational Excellence. Dr. Lachapelle previously served as the residency program director for cardiac surgery from 2005 to 2016 and currently serves as the Associate Chair for Faculty Development, promoting leadership programs for surgeons and introducing a new STAR course aimed at improving intraoperative teaching.
