Biography

Kevin B. Lee is a professor at Università della Svizzera italiana, specializing in Future Cinema and Audiovisual Arts. An award-winning filmmaker and media artist, he has produced numerous 360 video essays that explore various dimensions of film media. His work includes the critically acclaimed 'Transformers: Premake,' which introduced a novel format called the 'desktop documentary.' Lee's video essays, such as 'Reading // Binging // Benning' and 'Once Screen: Explosive Paradox,' have received significant recognition in Sight & Sound's annual video essay polls in both 2017 and 2020. He led a collaborative project entitled 'Bottled Songs' with Chloé Galibert-Laîné, which won the 2018 Sundance Institute Art Nonfiction Grant and the 2019 Eurimages Lab Project Award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. In 2020, Lee co-curated the Black Lives Matter Video Essay Playlist alongside DiGravio Cydnii Wilde Harris. Before his current position, he was an Associate Professor and co-director of the Masters Program in Artistic Research at Merz Akademie in Stuttgart, Germany. His research interests encompass Artistic Research, Film Media Studies, Future Cinema, and Internet Studies.
