Biography

Kevin Maxwell is a Clinical Associate Professor at the Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science, University of San Diego. He is a nationally certified Family Nurse Practitioner with significant experience in teaching within both the NP and DNP Nursing Programs. He completed his doctoral studies at the University of San Diego, where he also received his Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. His educational journey included a BS in Human Anatomy and Physiology from the University of Illinois. Clinically, Dr. Maxwell practiced at a community clinic in Linda Vista, California, and currently works in the Department of Surgery/Trauma/Transplant Burn Surgery at UC San Diego Health System, a level I trauma center. He is actively involved in mentoring and precepting NP/DNP students, ensuring they are prepared to take the American Nurse Credential Center and American Association Nurse Practitioner board exams. Dr. Maxwell's diverse background includes 23 years in the aviation industry, where he served as a Flight Attendant and instructor. His research interests focus on the application of Command Leadership Resource training in healthcare and the development of emotional intelligence in providers to enhance patient care. He continues to explore Nursing Theory through the lens of Emotional Cognizance, aiming to empower providers in their delivery of care as patients' emotional states fluctuate throughout their healthcare journeys.
