Biography

Kevin McGuirk is an Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo, specializing in English Language Literature. He spent his early years in the suburbs of Toronto, where he developed a passion for soccer and reading fiction. McGuirk's academic journey began with a Bachelor's degree from Cornell University, followed by a Master's from the University of Windsor, and a PhD from the University of Western Ontario. His work covers a wide array of topics in American poetry and literature. He draws particular interest from the innovative tradition of American poetry, particularly the works of A.R. Ammons, and explores themes including postmodern poetics, the cultural study of space, and literary Daoism. McGuirk teaches graduate-level courses on Fiction Film and Sound Studies, as well as undergraduate courses such as American Fiction and the American Renaissance. His publications reflect a deep engagement with the sound and ethos in literature, examining how these elements contribute to the narrative form. McGuirk is committed to mentoring graduate students, supervising theses in American literature, and offering a variety of courses that connect poetics with cultural studies.
