Kevin Mumford is a Professor and Associate Dean of Interdisciplinary Programs in the Department of Civil Engineering at Queen's University. His expertise primarily focuses on contaminant fate and transport in groundwater, soil and groundwater remediation technologies, and the laboratory investigation of multiphase flow and mass transfer in porous media. His research group employs a combination of laboratory experiments and numerical models to develop and improve strategies for site investigation and remediation technologies related to groundwater contamination, particularly interested in the behavior of non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs) and subsurface gases. Kevin has been recognized with several awards for his teaching and research excellence, including the Civil Engineering Teaching Award and the Excellence Research Award from Queen’s University. He obtained his PhD in Civil Engineering from McMaster University in 2008, where his thesis focused on gas phase mobilization due to the mass transfer of dense NAPLs. Kevin has supervised numerous graduate students and holds a prominent position in the field of Environmental Engineering, contributing significantly to understanding and addressing groundwater issues in relation to sustainable development goals.
