Dr. Kevin Newsom

Biography

Kevin Newsom is a lecturer at Harvard Law School and a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. He is based in Birmingham, Alabama. Prior to his current role, Judge Newsom was the head of the appellate practice group at Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP and served as Solicitor General of Alabama. He has argued four cases before the Supreme Court of the United States and has experience with numerous appeals in both state and federal court. Judge Newsom graduated summa cum laude from Samford University and magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, where he was the articles editor for the Harvard Law Review. He also clerked for Judge Diarmuid F. O’Scannlain on the Ninth Circuit and Justice David H. Souter at the Supreme Court. In addition to his lecturing at Harvard, he has taught at Yale Law School, Stanford Law School, and the University of Chicago Law School. His published works have appeared in prestigious journals such as the Yale Law Journal and Harvard Law Review.
