Biography

Kevin Otto received his BS degree in chemical engineering from Colorado State University in 1997, followed by an MS and PhD in bioengineering from Arizona State University in 2002 and 2003, respectively. He served as a Research Fellow in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan from 2003 to 2004, focusing on brain-machine interface systems and implantable devices. His post-doctoral work took place at the Central Systems Laboratory in the Kresge Hearing Research Institute, where he researched cochlear implants from 2004 to 2006. After a tenure as Assistant and Associate Professor at Purdue University from 2006 to 2014, he was appointed Senior Associate Chair in the University of Florida BME Department from 2020 to 2023, leading academic programs during the COVID pandemic and initiating ABET Accreditation preparations. Otto returned to Purdue in July 2024 as the Dane Miller Head Professor of Biomedical Engineering. He has led multiple multidisciplinary NIH and DARPA research projects and served on various committees, showcasing a commitment to mentoring and academic development. He has supervised 56 post-doctoral graduate trainees and 115 undergraduate students, receiving numerous awards for his contributions in academia and research.
