Biography

Kevin Pipe is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan. He also holds a position as a Professor in the Applied Physics Program and the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Additionally, he serves as the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education in the College of Engineering. He obtained his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2004, following a Master of Engineering degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, also from MIT. His research focuses on microscale heat transfer, particularly in relation to electronic and optoelectronic devices, thermoelectric energy conversion, and medical applications of heat transfer. Throughout his career, he has received several honors, including the Young Faculty Award from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency in 2009 and the Achievement Award from the University of Michigan's Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2008. His research team has made significant advances, including improving the thermal conductivity of polymers and developing materials that enhance the efficiency of energy conversion processes.
