Dr. Kevin Ponto

Biography

Kevin Ponto is the Audrey Rothermel Bascom Professor at the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery, specializing in design studies and virtual reality. His research focuses on understanding and protecting vision through innovative virtual environments that enable controlled studies of environmental features. Dr. Ponto hypothesizes that, similar to corrective lenses, virtual environments can be tailored to individual needs. His research endeavors include perceptually calibrating these environments based on user feedback. His recent work has shown promising results in the CAVE environment, and he is actively looking to expand his research to various types of virtual reality systems. With a background in computer engineering and arts computation engineering, he has combined these disciplines to advance the study of human perception and interaction in virtual spaces. Dr. Ponto completed a PhD in computer science from the University of California, San Diego, and has held postdoctoral positions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
