Biography

Kevin Sims is a percussionist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and filmmaker based in Aaronsburg, Pennsylvania. He is the founder and artistic director of Open Music, an experimental music ensemble concert series in central Pennsylvania. Recent works include the percussion album 'Yarrow Canon' released by Orb Tapes in 2023, and the film for violin duo Du.0 titled 'Fantasy Item de Virginibus' dedicated to Hildegard von Bingen. His multimedia documentary projects include 'Battle Hymn Public' (Orb Tapes 2020) and 'Sense Real.' He collaborates with composer Scott Wollschleger and poet Abby Minor on a percussion monodrama titled 'Taken Eaten.' Additionally, he has performed with James Searfoss as part of their improvisation duo 'Moth Bucket.' Kevin studied percussion at the Manhattan School of Music in New York and was awarded a DAAD fellowship at the Musikhochschule Freiburg in Germany. He is also a founding member of the ensemble Red Light New Music and has worked with the international percussion group Ensemble XII.
