Biography

Kevin J. Webb is a Professor at Purdue University's School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He was born in Stawell, Victoria, Australia, and spent his formative college years in Melbourne. Webb obtained a Bachelor of Engineering and a Master of Engineering degrees from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, followed by an M.S.E.E. from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1984, and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He began his academic career at the University of Maryland, College Park in 1990 before joining the faculty at Purdue University. Webb is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Optical Society of America (OSA), and the American Physical Society (APS). His research spans various aspects of optics, solid-state devices, nanotechnology, and communication signal processing, emphasizing theoretical, computational, and experimental facets based on electromagnetics. He holds visiting professor positions in the United States and has collaborated on joint projects across physics, chemistry, neuroscience, mechanical engineering, and biomedical engineering. Webb has a strong commitment to impactful research that aims to 'change the world.' His students have gone on to achieve distinguished records in academic and industrial positions in the U.S. and abroad. Additionally, Webb founded the Purdue University Karate Club in 1990, where he serves as the chief instructor and holds the rank of 5th Dan Shihan.
