Biography

Kevin Williams is a Full Professor and the Chair of the Photonic Integration research group at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His key areas of expertise include photonic integrated circuits and semiconductor lasers, with applications in communications and sensing. Kevin’s research focuses on the scaling properties of photonic circuits, aiming to develop faster and more energy-efficient components. His group specializes in various aspects of active-passive monolithic InP integration, including circuit creation involving lasers, amplifiers, quantum modulators, detectors, and power splitters. The group also explores critical themes such as generic integration—methodologies for enabling circuits using platform technology—as well as heterogeneous hybrid integration, which combines photonic components with Silicon electronics. Additionally, Kevin works on integrated nano-photonics, leveraging InP membranes and sub-wavelength photonic structures for miniaturization. He teaches courses in design, electronics, and photonics, emphasizing the importance of photonic integrated circuits in providing low-energy, high-speed solutions for modern internet applications.
