Biography

Kevin Windle is a Professor Emeritus at the Australian National University, where he has played a significant role in the School of Literature, Languages, and Linguistics. He served as the Head of the School from 2003 to 2004 and was formerly the Convenor of Translation Studies and Russian. Windle has taught Russian language and literature at various academic levels and was instrumental in inaugurating the Masters Program in Translation Studies in 2001. His major publications include the biography 'Undesirable: Captain Zuzenko Workers Australia World' (Melbourne, 2012) and he has co-edited the 'Oxford Handbook of Translation Studies' (Oxford, 2011). Alongside his academic contributions, he has produced numerous literary scholarly translations. Windle’s research interests encompass Modern Russian and Polish literature, Slavonic lexicography, Translation Studies, and the history of Russian settlement in Australia. Over the years, he has been recognized with several prestigious awards for his work in literary translation, including shortlisting for the NSW Premier's Prize and winning the inaugural AALITRA Prize for Literary Translation. In 2017, he received the Aurora Borealis Prize for Translation Non-Fiction at the Federation International des Traducteurs Congress in Brisbane. His qualifications include a BA Hons from Liverpool University, an MA from McMaster University, and a PhD from McGill University.
