Khaled El-Rouayheb is the James Richard Jewett Professor in Islamic Intellectual History and the Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Near Eastern Languages & Civilizations at Harvard University. His research primarily focuses on intellectual and cultural history of the Arabic-Islamic world, particularly during the Mamluk and early-Ottoman periods from 1200 to 1800. El-Rouayheb has extensively studied Arabic logic and Islamic theology. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Copenhagen, a Master’s in Middle Eastern History from the American University of Beirut, and completed his PhD in 2003 at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Cambridge. His notable publications include the monographs 'Homosexuality in the Arabic-Islamic World, 1500-1800' (University of Chicago Press, 2005), 'Relational Syllogisms & the History of Arabic Logic, 900-1900' (Brill, 2010), and 'Islamic Intellectual History in the Seventeenth Century' (Cambridge University Press, 2015). He also prepared an edition of 'Kashf al-asrar ‘an ghawamid al-afkar, summa logic' of Afdal al-Din al-Khunaji (d.1248) in 2010 and co-edited the 'Oxford Handbook of Islamic Philosophy' with Sabine Schmidtke in 2016.
