Biography

Khaled Mattawa is a Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Michigan, where he teaches in the graduate creative writing program. He is the author of five books, including a critical study of Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, and has coedited anthologies of Arab American literature as well as translated volumes of contemporary Arabic poetry. His awards include the Academy of American Poets Fellowship, the PEN Award for Poetry Translation, and a MacArthur Fellowship. His teaching includes courses on Muslim Arab literatures, comparative perspectives on the Middle East and North Africa, and humanities topics in Middle Eastern studies.
