Biography

Khalil Barhoum is a Senior Lecturer at the Stanford Language Center, specializing in Linguistics. He obtained a B.A. in English Language and Literature from the University of Jordan and earned his Master's degree in English Literature from Georgia Southern University in 1977, followed by a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Georgetown University in 1985. His teaching experience spans various institutions, including the Department of State's Foreign Service Institute, Georgetown University, and Johns Hopkins University's School of International Studies. After completing his Ph.D., he joined Stanford University, where he has been instrumental in teaching Arabic within the Department of Linguistics and coordinates the African and Middle Eastern Languages Program. Barhoum is certified by ACTFL as an OPI WPT Tester/Rater in Arabic and has served on the board of the Association of Arabic Teachers of America and as national president of the Association of Arab American University Graduates. He has lectured extensively on Arabic literature and culture across various colleges in the U.S.
