Biography

Khandaker M. Anwar Hossain is a professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University. He earned his PhD from the University of Strathclyde in 1995, and his MSc and BSc degrees from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology in 1990 and 1982, respectively. His research interests focus on sustainable construction materials, particularly the use of nanomaterials and geopolymer modified concrete composites. He is particularly noted for his work on ultra-high performance concrete and self-healing concrete technologies. Over the years, Hossain has engaged in various research collaborations with international institutions and has served as an invited speaker at numerous conferences. He has received several awards, including the ACI Wason Medal for Materials Research and the Dean’s Teaching Award at Toronto Metropolitan University. Active in professional societies, he is a member of the Canadian Society of Civil Engineers and the American Concrete Institute, among others. Hossain demonstrates a commitment to education and mentoring, aiming to shape the next generation of professional engineers through innovative teaching methods and research initiatives that enhance the quality of infrastructure while considering environmental impacts.
