Kian Goh is an Assistant Professor in Urban Planning at UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs. He researches relationships between urban ecological design, spatial politics, and social mobilization in the context of climate change and global urbanization. His current research investigates the urban spatial politics of climate change adaptation, tracing the flows of ideas that influence adaptation strategies in Southeast Asia, North America, and Europe. His research interests broadly include urban theory, urban design, environmental planning, and urban political ecology. As a licensed architect, Goh co-founded the design firm SUPER-INTERESTING! and has practiced professionally with firms such as Weiss/Manfredi and MVRDV. He has previous experience as an Assistant Professor in Urban Landscape at Northeastern University School of Architecture, and has taught at institutions including MIT, the University of Pennsylvania, the New School, and Washington University in St. Louis. He has also conducted research as an affiliate at the Resilient Cities Housing Initiative at MIT and at the Urban Theory Lab at Harvard Graduate School of Design. Goh received his PhD in Urban Environmental Planning from MIT and holds a Master of Architecture from Yale University. He is currently completing a book project titled 'Political Ecology Design: Contested Visions of Urban Climate Resilience'.
