Biography

Kiemute Oyibo is an Assistant Professor at the Lassonde School of Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, at York University, having joined in the summer term of 2022. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Saskatchewan in 2020, followed by postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Waterloo and Carnegie Mellon University. His research interests encompass Persuasive Design, Personalization, User Modeling, User Experience, and Digital Health. He has contributed to the field with over 90 scientific papers and has received around 1000 citations on Google Scholar. Notably, his work on a culture-tailored fitness app won a Gold Award at the Human-Computer Interaction International 2019 Student Design Competition in Florida. His research proposal on developing contact tracing apps utilizing persuasive technologies was nominated in the 2022 national Banting Fellowship competition at the University of Waterloo. Kiemute aims to leverage personalization to address digital health inequities across various income contexts. Currently, he is researching the use of machine learning techniques to personalize persuasive systems to bridge the digital divide in the health domain. Beyond his research, Kiemute enjoys writing poetry and maintaining physical and mental fitness.
