Biography

Kiemute Oyibo is an Assistant Professor at the Lassonde School of Engineering, specializing in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He joined York University in the summer of 2022 after receiving his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Saskatchewan in 2020. He has also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Waterloo and Carnegie Mellon University. His research interests are focused on Persuasive Design, Personalization, User Modeling, User Experience, and Digital Health. Kiemute has published over 90 scientific papers, accumulating around 1000 citations according to Google Scholar. Notable achievements include winning a Gold Award at the Human-Computer Interaction International 2019 Student Design Competition for a culture-tailored fitness app and having his research proposal on designing contact tracing apps with persuasive technologies nominated for the 2022 national Banting Fellowship competition at the University of Waterloo. His long-term goal is to utilize personalization to address digital health inequities across various economic contexts. Currently, Kiemute is engaged in researching the use of machine learning techniques to personalize persuasive systems to bridge the digital divide in health. Beyond academia, he enjoys writing poetry and maintaining his physical and mental fitness.
