Dr. Kiene Brillenburg Wurth

Biography

Kiene Brillenburg Wurth is a professor at Utrecht University specializing in Comparative Literature and the Medical Humanities. She holds a master's degree in literature and film, graduating cum laude, and completed her PhD on music and music philosophy, also cum laude. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on creativity across literature, music, new media, and comparative philosophy. In 2021, she became the program director for the MSc in Medical Humanities, aiming to integrate student well-being into academic teaching through contemplative practices. Kiene has held various leadership roles, including Head of the Humanities at University College Utrecht and director of graduate studies for the Department of Languages, Literature, and Communication. Her research investigates the transformative processes of creativity within arts and education, emphasizing non-instrumental and relational activities. Kiene has authored significant works, including "Musically Sublime," and has been involved in various editorial roles in academic journals. Her teaching covers a wide range of topics in literature and creativity, both in the Netherlands and internationally.
