Dr. Kieran Bonner

Biography

Kieran Bonner is a Professor in the Department of Sociology and Legal Studies at the University of Waterloo and holds the position of Chair in Sociology and Legal Studies at St. Jerome's University. He also serves as the Director of Human Sciences at St. Jerome's University and is an Adjunct Professor at the School of Planning, University of Waterloo. Bonner earned his PhD in Sociology from York University, where he also completed his MA in Sociology, and he holds a BA (Honours) from Trinity College, Dublin. His research interests encompass various areas of sociology, including classical theory and methodology, phenomenology, urban-rural discourse, and the sociology of family relationships. He focuses on a range of topics from city life to health and illness, drawing influences from ancient philosophies, particularly the works of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. Bonner has published a number of significant works in the field, including books and articles covering diverse subjects such as community discourse, parenting, and health issues in urban settings. His recent courses explore contemporary sociological theory and methodologies, reflecting his commitment to advancing education and scholarship in sociology.
