Professor Kieran Harvey holds dual appointments at Monash University and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. He runs a laboratory in the Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology and leads the Organogenesis Cancer Program at Peter Mac. His research focuses on studying organ size control during development, utilizing Drosophila as a model organism, and investigating the signaling pathways that control organ size, particularly in the context of deregulated human cancer. Under his guidance, the laboratory examines the Hippo tumor suppressor pathway, a significant area of focus since he contributed to its discovery in Prof. Iswar Hariharan's laboratory in 2002. Kieran completed his Doctoral studies with Prof. Sharad Kumar at the Hanson Institute in Adelaide and conducted postdoctoral studies at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical Center and the University of California, Berkeley with Prof. Iswar Hariharan. In 2006, he established an independent laboratory at Peter Mac and joined Monash University in 2017. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals aiming to eradicate poverty and protect the planet, contributing to global prosperity through scientific research.
