Biography

Killian O’Dochartaigh is an architect whose work examines post-conflict and post-disaster built environments. His research focuses on regeneration and its impact on urban unevenness between the Global North and South. With early experience in social and affordable housing practices in Ireland, he has contributed to significant restoration projects in post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans. His work expands into post-war reconstruction in Rwanda, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. He has received the Frederick Bonnart Scholarship to support his research on countering racial, religious, and cultural intolerance through his doctoral studies at UCL. Killian’s academic qualifications include M.Arch from KTH Stockholm and a BSc Hons in Architecture from Queen's University Belfast. His architectural work and teaching have been showcased at prestigious venues including the Venice Architecture Biennale, and published in prominent architecture journals. He also engages in teaching and lecturing at various institutions, sharing his expertise in urban-ecology design and architectural theory. His current research explores development issues and indigenous rights in Rwanda, highlighting the intersections of design, politics, and ecology.
