Biography

Kim Bates is the Chair of Entrepreneurship and Strategy and an Associate Professor at the Ted Rogers School of Management at Toronto Metropolitan University. Since joining in June 2011, he has actively contributed to the MBA-MTI program and became the MBA program director in June 2012. His research focuses on innovation, corporate governance, and the intersection of business and society, particularly the impact of the aging population on organizations and the importance of diversity, inclusion, and social innovation. Bates has established a reputation as a respected scholar, influencing a generation of researchers in these fields. He earned his BA from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, and his Ph.D. from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. Before his tenure at Ryerson, he held academic positions at the Stern School of Business at New York University, the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, and Trent University, where he served as the Director of the Bachelor of Business Administration program.
