Biography

Kim Beauchesne is an Associate Professor specializing in Latin American colonial literature and postcolonial theory, with a particular emphasis on comparative colonialism. She is a co-organizer of the UBC Postcolonial Research Cluster. Her research and teaching interests encompass the relationship between human rights and literature, the concept of utopia, travel literature, and the legacy of colonialism in contemporary Latin American literature and culture. She is the author of the book titled 'Visión periférica: marginalidad y colonialidad en las crónicas de América Latina (siglos XVI-XVII y XX-XXI),' and has published several scholarly articles and book chapters. Beauchesne also co-edited two volumes, 'Utopian Impulse Latin America' and 'Performing Utopias Contemporary Americas.' She has received multiple SSHRC grants for various research projects, including analyzing cultural decolonization in the Americas and exploring transatlantic and transpacific studies through historical texts.
