Biography

Kim Correa is a PhD student and sessional lecturer at the University of British Columbia. She has a Master's in Library and Information Studies from UBC (2022) and a Bachelor's in Media Communication Studies from the University of Washington Bothell (2017). Her research focuses on the intersection of surveillance, technology, and activism, with a specific emphasis on understanding how young activists engage with and subvert surveillant assemblages and artificial intelligence. Correa's work seeks to uncover and amplify the creative resiliency of activists, particularly youth, in the context of an increasingly watchful technocapitalist landscape. She employs feminist, participatory, and decolonial methodologies to center the lived experiences of her participants. Currently, her research is focused on climate justice activism in the Greater Vancouver area, exploring the everyday use of technology and how embedded surveillance technologies influence user behavior.
