Biography

Associate Professor of Psychology at Macquarie University, Kim Curby received both her Masters and PhD in Psychology from Vanderbilt University, USA. Following her PhD, she completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at Yale University before accepting a position as an Assistant Professor at Temple University in Philadelphia. She moved to Macquarie University in 2012, where she currently serves as the Deputy Director of the University Centre for Elite Performance, Expertise, and Training (CEPET) and the Deputy Director of the Faculty Perception Action Research Centre (PARC). Her research focuses on understanding the effects of visual learning and perceptual expertise on cognitive functions, specifically how these insights can improve training environments for professionals, such as pathologists and radiologists. She is also involved in supervising undergraduate interns and graduate students in research areas related to visual cognition. Her teaching covers cognition and perception at various levels. Curby actively participates in editorial boards for several journals and engages in community outreach, including serving as a scientific advisor for media on topics related to racial face recognition effects.
